I have a call number. Where do I find it in the library?

Each item has a shelving location in the library catalog.  You will see the specific area followed by the floor number (if other than the first floor) where you will find your item.  Some examples are:

  • Special Collections - 3rd floor
  • Oversize - 2nd floor - Penn College only
  • Popular and best sellers

Each aisle is marked with a call number range so you know in which row your item is shelved.  You will see tags on the ends of some aisles (like in the reference area) or you will see signs hanging across the inside ends of each row (like in the regular stacks).

Items marked Penn College only means the item can only be checked out to current students, faculty and staff; these items are not available for lending to alumni, community borrowers, or interlibrary loan.

Use the floor directories to see where you need to look for your item.  You can always ask a librarian at the Reference Desk (or text us if you are lost in the stacks) for help finding what you need.
